The hillside behind the bay is the site of a banana grove,
giving the dive site its name. This lovely bay is located on the eastern side of Koh Racha Noi,
in the northern half of this split island. It is a good choice for any non-diving companions who may want to snorkel.
Characteristics:
This small crescent-shaped slopes gently from 3–5
meters down to about 25 meters where the sand takes over. In the shallows the big
rocks support a mix of soft corals, fans and hard corals, with table corals and
staghorn patches dotted between.
Highlights:
This site is home to some unusual species of nudibranchs
as well as rare fish such as sea moths--but you have to be lucky to spot them.
Various types of lionfish, butterflyfish and other reef fish are present, as are
shrimp and crabs tucked away in the cracks in the rocks.
Marcia's notes:
While this is a very nice site for training new divers, and
far less crowded than the sites at Racha Yai, the added distance from Phuket makes
it a long day for novices.
