Racha Noi Bay, on the southeastern side of the southern
half of the island is easy to distinguish because it has a small island in the
middle of it, connected at low tide by a sand bar to the main island. This is
another good site for snorkelers.
Characteristics:
The island in the middle of the bay effectively
creates two halves of the dive site. To the north and south of the islet, the half-bays have
patchy reefs up to the intervening jumble of piled rocks that surround the islet, down to about
25 meters. The rocks and coral heads in this area are the main feature of the dive.
Highlights:
In the deepest areas to the east of the islet, the rocks
are swarming with glass fish, and current-loving corals such as sea whips and fans
are to be found there. Leopard sharks are sometimes seen here. And with luck, a
manta ray may swoop past.
Marcia's notes:
This dive site is appropriate for novice divers and students
in the shallower areas and for slightly more experienced divers in the deeper areas.
Currents may shift around the islet in the deeper areas. Take your time at this small
site.
