The "wall" part of the dive site name derives from the
steep slope as the reef drops quickly to 20 meters and continues
rapidly to 25 meters between the fourth and fifth bays on the east side of Racha Yai
island. Whether there is a waterfall nearby is open to investigation!
Characteristics:
Like the other sites on this side of the island,
this is a wonderland of stones and hard corals. What makes this site different is
that it’s easy for bigger fish to come right up to the reef without getting into
the shallows. So watch for hunting pelagics.
Highlights:
There may be a resting leopard shark in the sand and
blue-spotted stingrays are to be found here. Tuna, mackeral, jacks, and
barracuda come to this area to feed. Schools of rainbow runners will also stream
by in long ribbons.
Marcia's notes:
Currents at this southern site may be stronger than at the
reefs in the middle of the shore, and open water divers will want to monitor their
depths closely.
