 Boulder City
|
Overview:Located to the southeast of Koh Pa-Yan (Island 3), 400
meters beyond Hin Phae, this site is, as the name implies, a cluster of boulders. They rest on a sandy island
25 meters below the surface and dropping to 35-40 on all surrounding sides.
|
Characteristics:Boulder City is a labyrinth of boulders piled on even bigger boulders. They
top out at 12 –18 meters below the surface. Their placement creates passages, making a meandering dive from
the deeper areas to the tops of the rocks a logical choice.
Highlights:These granite boulders offer a remarkable dive because they attract pelagic fish,
such as jacks, barracudas and mantas. Keep an eye out in the sandy
areas for fire dartfish, and in the cracks in the rocks look for smaller creatures such as white-banded
cleaner shrimp. Nudibranchs are also present, including the beautiful Spanish dancer.
Marcia's notes:Currents at the site can be strong, and they can pick up in the channels between the
boulders. Watch your air consumption and be prepared to rest if you need to swim in mid-water to get past the
current at places. This dive is best suited for experienced divers.
