Breakfast Bend is a long reef following the arc of the eastern side of Koh Ba Ngu
(Island 9). It is a typical east-side site with a sloping reef marked by pore coral heads, table corals and
staghorn stands.
Characteristics:
At the northern end of the site is a cluster of small boulders at about 10
meters among which is a large colony of whip corals. Following the curve of the coastline south, the reef
slopes gently to about 25 meters before the corals give way to just sand. The southern end of the dive site
is marked by a rock sitting in 5 to 10 meters of water and whose top breaks the surface.
Highlights:
All of the usual reef fish are here in profusion. Look for schools of yellowtail
barracuda, batfish, white collar butterfly fish, and so on. Masses of garden eels are found in the 20-25
meter depth. Leopard sharks may be napping in the sand near the bigger rocks.
Marcia's notes:
This east-facing site is at its best in the morning when the sun is shining
on it. It is always done as a drift dive, so just go with the flow and enjoy the magic carpet ride.
