 Koh Haa Lagoon
|
Overview:Koh Haa Islands 2, 3, and 4 form a triangle within which is found a shallow,
sandy plain. Island 3 is the largest of the trio, while Islands 2 and 4 are towers protecting the shallows.
The dive site is located around the two towers.
|
Characteristics:The limestone towers of Islands 2 and 4 meet the lagoon area at a depth of
about 5 meters, but towards the outer (eastern) sides of the towers, the bottom drops quickly to about 20-25
meters. The sandy bottom between the towers slopes to the same degree. Boulders scattered in the deeper
areas are worth a look.
Highlights:The towers are covered in soft corals, anemones, and fans and are home to many
fascinating small creatures such as harlequin shrimp, cowries, nudibranchs, crabs and others. One weird
critter sometimes seen here is the sea moth—a fish with wings like a moth and an oddly pointed snout. Look
for them scooting along the sandy bottom.
Marcia's notes:This site, like others in the Koh Haa group, is one which may be visited by liveaboard
boats out of Phuket. Daytrip boats from Koh Lanta also dive these sites.
