Koh Haa Neua

  Koh Haa Neua
  • Overview:

This is the northernmost island of the Koh Haa group of five islands, hence the name: koh=island + haa=five + neua=north. The divesite is also sometimes referred to as “The Chimney” in reference to a swim-through with an entrance at about 17 meters and two exits at about 5 meters.

  • Characteristics:

The island is most frequently dived on its southern side. The dive site is made up of a cluster of huge rocks resting on the sand, and the chimney swim-through begins among them at about 17 meters.

  • Highlights:

Among the rocks is found a healthy reef of mixed hard and soft corals. This is not a big-fish area, so be on the lookout for small gems such as ornate ghost pipefish and nudibranchs. Harlequin shrimp are also known from this site, so look for the severed arms of starfish indicating that they may be nearby.

  • Marcia's notes:

The chimney is a thrilling aspect to this dive. However the passage is rather narrow and excellent buoyancy control is necessary in order to avoid pressure-related injuries. Beyond this one caveat, this site is suitable for all levels of divers.
